TOPKAPI SARAYI MÜZESİ’NDE YER ALAN ANSİKLOPEDİK BİR GÜLİSTÂN SÖZLÜĞÜ: “KİTÂB-I LÜGAT-I GÜLİSTÂN”

Translated from Persian into our language, Sa'di Şirâzî's work called Gülistân was met with great interest in every period, commentaries, nazires and dictionaries were written about it. Studies on dictionary and grammar are as old as the invention of writing. Dictionary studies in the time of the Ottomans XIV. - XVI. intensifies over the centuries. These dictionaries consist of Arabic-Turkish, Persian-Turkish or several languages. In addition to dictionaries written between languages, there are also dictionaries created for some works that have an important place in the world of literature. Dictionaries written in the name of important works such as Gülistân, Bostân, Mesnevi, Şehnâme are among such work dictionaries. The primary purpose of writing these dictionaries is to ensure that the works can be understood better and easier by the readers. The dictionary of works, which is the subject of our study, was written about Gülistân. In our study, the encyclopedic dictionary named Kitâb-ı Lügat-ı Gülistân, which is in the Topkapı Palace Museum Library, was examined. In our study, in which we introduced this prose dictionary in detail, information about the dictionary in terms of both form and content was given and its place in the lexicography tradition was mentioned. In addition, in our study, it has been shown that the work, which we support with visuals and explain with various word examples, is different from its counterparts.
