Essays are genres in which writers freely convey their experiences and ideas critically, without relying on such attributes as objectivity and reality. In addition to these features, essays differ from other text types in terms of linguistic and stylistic features, and they have been examined from different perspective in the literature and classified under different text types. For this reason, it is considered as a problematic text type. It is important to describe the text structure and reveal the semantic-logical relations in the essays. For this purpose, coherence relations that provide connectivity were examined in the study. 25 essays in Yapı Kredi Yayınları Kitap-lık dergisi were analyzed using coherence criteria developed by Kehler (2002). It was concluded that all of the coherence relations were applied in the essays and the coherence was mostly realized through causal relations.
