The formation of nations is based on legends, epics, and tales of their national heroes. One of these heroes for the Turkish Nation is Dede Korkut. Dede Korkut, for the Oghuz Tribe, is a wise, an evliya, a miracle worker, an alp, a valiant, a poet, a saint, a pioneer, forefather. The stories in the Dede Korkut Epic contain local (domestic) and universal (universal) values and virtues, such as many psychological, sociological, pedological, national, and moral integrity, honesty, courage, hard work, and loyalty. Determination of these values constitutes the essence of the study.

Milletlerin oluşumu efsanelere, destanlara, millî kahramanlarının hamasi hikâyelerine dayanır. Türk milleti için bu kahramanlardan biri de Dede Korkut’tur. Dede korkut Oğuz Boyu için bir bilge, bir evliya, bir keramet sahibi, bir alp, bir yiğit, bir ozan, bir aziz, bir öncü, atadır. Dede Korkut Destanı’nda yer alan hikâyelerde psikolojik, sosyolojik, pedogojik, millî ve ahlaki nitelikte çok sayıda doğruluk, dürüstlük, cesurluk, çalışkanlık, sadakat vb. gibi mahallî (domestik) ve evrensel (üniversal) değerler ve erdemler vardır. Bu değerlerin tespiti çalışmanın özünü teşkil etmektedir.
