In the light of Halide Edip's memories and various writings, this article focuses on the channels through which the author reached religion and science during her education and to what extent these had an impact on the author. In the first stage, the traditional Islamic understanding that Halide Edip acquired through her grandmother Nakiye Hanım from Eyüpsultan, her social circle, and some of the story books she read comes to the fore. Greek School, Christian culture and liberal thought in the context of the American College constitute the second stage in the author's education. It is noteworthy that Halide Edip's emotional bond with her teacher at the Greek School, Kyria Ellenie, looked after her as a mother since she was an orphan, and as a result, she developed a positive perspective towards the Christian religion. After her marriage, her husband Salih Zeki's guiding position in scientific thought and his conservatism on this subject constitute the third stage of Halide Edip's education process.
